About

Most good products begin
as imperfect first attempts.

First Pancake exists because too many businesses spend too much money before they know what they need to know.

Why we exist

The cost of skipping the first pancake.

Inventory, branding, packaging, ads, and development can all be expensive. The pattern is familiar: a brand identifies an opportunity, moves quickly to capture it, and discovers — after the investment — that the product, price, customer, or offer was wrong.

A small, disciplined test can reveal what deserves investment, what needs revision, and what should stop before it consumes more capital. That is what First Pancake is built to do.

The name comes from a simple truth every experienced cook knows: the first pancake is always a little off. You use it to calibrate the heat, test the batter, figure out the timing. Then you make the good ones.

E-commerce product operations and fulfillment

The core idea

"Before you invest heavily, make a small, disciplined first attempt. Learn from it. Improve it. Then decide whether to proceed."

This is not a novel idea. It is the principle behind every good product development process. First Pancake applies it specifically to the e-commerce and physical-product context, where the cost of a wrong bet is often an inventory order, a branding investment, or a failed ad campaign.

How we work

What we believe

Test before you commit

The most expensive product decisions are usually made before there is enough evidence to justify them. A small, disciplined test almost always costs less than a bad inventory order.

Commercial judgment, not just data

Research without interpretation is noise. We combine market evidence with practical e-commerce experience to produce a recommendation you can act on — not just a report you have to decode.

Honest calls over comfortable ones

A "Toss It" recommendation is not a failure. It is the service working as intended. Avoiding a poor decision can save far more than the cost of the validation work.

Scope discipline

Every engagement is designed around one product, one customer, one channel, and one decision. Focused tests produce clearer signals than broad ones.

Built for people making real bets

Grounded in practical e-commerce experience.

First Pancake is grounded in practical experience across e-commerce, product development, advertising, marketplace selling, pricing, and operating decisions. The work is designed for businesses making real product bets — not for aspiring entrepreneurs with no financial stake.

Founder

Jordan J. Lindberg, Ph.D.

Jordan is an entrepreneur, e-commerce operator, and advisor with more than twenty years of experience building businesses where product ideas must survive contact with real customers, real margins, real inventory, and real operational constraints. He is the founder and owner of Stardust Memorials and Reflections Urns & Memorials, businesses serving the memorial-products industry through direct-to-consumer commerce, wholesale distribution, marketplace selling, product development, importing, personalization, warehousing, and fulfillment.

His work has involved the full chain of commercial decision-making: identifying product opportunities, sourcing and developing products, setting prices, creating offers, managing advertising and product feeds, building inventory systems, improving fulfillment, and learning which decisions create durable value and which merely create expensive complications.

Before entering business, Jordan earned a doctorate in philosophy and taught at the college level — a background that continues to shape how he approaches commercial problems: define the question carefully, distinguish assumptions from evidence, test the smallest change capable of producing useful information, and remain willing to revise the plan when the evidence changes.

First Pancake grew out of that practical philosophy. It is built for people making real bets on products, inventory, launches, and growth — and who want clearer evidence before committing more money to an idea.
